Emily Makela, MSW
Licensed Master Social Worker
Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern
Originally from Texas, Emily received her Masters of Social Work from Texas A&M University-Commerce and her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Texas-Dallas. Through military moves with her Army pilot husband, Emily now calls Georgia and the Gulf Coast of Florida home, working as a Licensed Master Social Worker and pre-licensed Registered Clinical Social Work Intern.
Emily specializes in practicing with a trauma-informed lens, focusing on helping teens and adults effectively overcome the negative effects that stressful or traumatic life experiences can have on how a person thinks, feels, and behaves in everyday life. She provides compassionate support and guidance to facilitate trauma recovery from a variety of distressing events, including early relational trauma and military service connected trauma. By creating a safe and supportive environment, Emily helps individuals explore and resolve the ways in which past experiences are unconsciously influencing their present thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
In her free time, Emily enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading mystery novels, relaxing at the beach, going on walks with her rescue dog, Dixie, and trying her hand at golf!
